OUR WORK
In the early 20th century, the technique for weaving patterns and designs used in Kyoto Nishijin for kimonos was combined with ribbon manufacturing which begun in Hokuriku region in the late 19th, leading to the start of production of woven label. After World War II, woven label manufacturing flourished with huge orders from the United States. With evolution of artisan techniques and machines, woven label industory became one of key industories in Hokuriku. However, due to an industrial structure prioritizing price, import rate of low-cost labels produced in neighboring Asian countries increased, forcing the production environment into stagnation. While a current reassessment of MADE IN JAPAN production has brought improvement, the industry continues to face severe challenges for its survival due to a lack of inheritors and the aging of traditional facilities. We wish to contribute to keep these impeccable proud products, techniques, culture, and history alive.
